Good morning, I'm trying to understand the gear ratios Piaggio intended for sidecar engines, such as the VSM1M or later. Does anyone own engines like this, or do you have this information? Photos of the inside of the engine would be sufficient so I can count the gear teeth.

Unfortunately not, the spare parts catalogue only lists the codes of the gears required for the gearbox, but it doesn't say anything about how many teeth they have. A photograph of the gearbox of an S-branded engine would be needed.

 

Maybe ask Topperharley for the mentioned scan.

Nagy restored one of these engines, which was sold to Kiel, maybe he knows the gearing.

Unfortunately, Nagy doesn't have any photos or information either; he told me the engine was made many years ago. Is there any way to contact this Kiel guy?

The engine is not in Kiel anymore, I doubt he ever counted the gearing but I will ask him.
