Hi,

 

Due to loong(?) gearing, 24/64, and Vespatronic on 24-17*, I'm running to high cht when cruising...

 

So I've been advised to put the ignition to 22-15*...

 

But as you can see on the picture, it is not possible to turn the ignition plate more clovkwise to achieve that...

 

Do I need to modify the ignition plate, or am I thinking completely wrong?!?

you need to modify the ignition plate's boltholes! a dremel works perfectly well for this job...

Honestly I don't know why you use a retarding ignition on this engine.

The engine may have a smooth power curve over the rev range and no lack or drop of torque at lower RPM.

So your engine don't need an ignition that runs on a higher timing at low revs.

I guess it will run fine with a standard ignition at 17 to 19° btdc.

Give it a try and go for a ride with a standard ignition.
