question about gaskets
Hi, Im restoring my VGLA1t and as unexperienced as i am do not know what the best way is to install the gaskets. Do you oil them with the same oil you put in the pertol? or dou you grease them with bearing grease? or dou you use liquid gasket sealer? I think my casings are in a good condition but what do i need to do to make a good resto? thanks

Question: do you guys use torque wrenches?
mm.damn I was afraid of that.. so what price category are we talking about ? when is it a 'good one'? and as to the damage caused by cheap ones; is that because they're not accurate or for another reason?
-
Question: do you guys use torque wrenches?
ok thanks! the thing is that I don't have the oney to buy a real expensive one..you often hear that buying cheap (30 Euro) ones aren't really accurate and that you can just the same use a normal wrench if you can't spend a lot of money.. what do you think about that?

Question: do you guys use torque wrenches?
I'm restoring my 1960 VGLA1t and I don't really know if I should buy a torque wrench for all the bolts and nuts on my scooter..To do a very professional restoration it's very handy ofcourse but I haerd on scooterbbs that unexperienced people that use torque wrenches often do more harm than good..and how necessary is it? Do you guys use them to tighten the nuts exactly like the factory settings? what's your experience? thanks!

Vespa engine rebuild questions; help!
ok..so now you say to put the bearings in the case first; it doesn't really matter how to do it I guess .. What do you meanby "ordinary greaese" for the seals; the same bearing grease you use on the wheel bearings? And when putting the crank in the casings with the bearings in first; does it need a lot of force to put it in? And when you just tap it in; will it go in straight or is that kind of difficult? I saw on the internet that you can buy a crank pulling tool..is that very handy or is tapping it in just as easy.. you probably noticed I'm very unexperienced :) Thanks!

Vespa engine rebuild questions; help!
OK Thanks!! - when putting the bearings on the crank; do you tap them on with a little hammer and a piece of wood or something or do they just slide on? and how do you know if they are seated coorectly on the crank; in other words; how much space must the be between the crankhalve and the bearing or do they just go on as far as they can go? - another question; what kind of grease do you use when rebuilding a vespa engine; I have vasline or copper gease, bearing grease..and do you use grease on the other parts in the engine as well; the other bearings, the gears and shift rods?

Vespa engine rebuild questions; help!
I'm rebuilding a 1960 VBB engine (actually a VGLA1T but I thinks thats the same) and have two questions: 1. When putting the crank in; do you put the bearings on the crank fisrt ( I do not have a special tool for this) and then put the complete assembly in the case halve; or do you put the bearings in the halves first and the put the crank in? 2. Do i need special factory tools? Especially the tools that go on the crank to protect the oil seals when putting the crank in. Do I realy need these? and where can I but them on the inet? I have a special factory manual that shows about 50 very handy tools but I don't know anyone ho has them. I.o.w.: can I rebuild this engine without special tools? Thanks

Help! where can I find this shock?

Can't split the casings, HELP!
I'm restoring a 1960 VBB but I just can't succeed in splitting the casings. I loosened all the bolts and applied heat to the main bearing housing (around where the crank protrudes) but I can't seem to get any motion in the damn things! This is my first time doing this; does anybody have a good hint?

detaching spring from rear dampner; help!
so you just screw the upper part of the dampner off and everything inside the dampner stays in place/intact?
-
detaching spring from rear dampner; help!
I was wondering how to get the spring of the rear dampner..Im still busy trying to get the rusted rubber block on top of the spring of the rod but I wonder what happens when it's off and i loosen the upper nut; the upper part of the dampner simply slides off because of the pressure the compressed spring gives..Is it possoble to take the upper part of the dampner off without ruining the dampner? I mean , does the oil and everything inside the dampner simply stays in position while taking the upper part off..I want to clean the entire thing on the outside and possibly replace the spring..I see no other way to take the spring off but is it safe to do it this way? Thanks

floorboard replacement GL-a (VBA/VBB/VNB etc.)
Hallo! Does anybody know a webbased shop in europe where i can order a floorboard replacement for my vespa gl-a; the frame is the same as vba/vbb/vnb etc. Mine has rust holes in it and replacing the entire part seems easier than welding in a plate (right?) Thanks!

rear dampner rubber attachment block; help!
I'm restoring a vespa vgla1 and my rear dampner is still in reasonable condition. I want to replace the rubber attachment block but can't seem to get it off..if i try to twist it of the dampner the main operating rod which sticks out of the dampner turns with it..is the block attachted by means of a screw thread? or does it just fit on the rod and is easily taken off (except when heavily rusted like mine?).. thanks!
